Krško NPP2 – An Answer to Energy Challenges

Alongside renewable energy sources, the Krško Nuclear Power Plant 2 (Krško NPP2; JEK 2 in Slovenian) provides the foundation for achieving the goals of climate neutrality and decarbonisation of the Slovenian power generation system. For our client, GEN Group, whose main development project is to build a second nuclear reactor unit for the Krško Nuclear Power Plant, we designed a new Krško NPP2 visual identity intended for long-term use. We brought it to life by applying it to various communication materials, mainly aimed at presenting the project to the general public.

A Visual Identity for Future Challenges
The aim of the project was to create the Krško NPP2 brand’s visual identity that would not only serve to communicate it as a power plant, but also support the story of the new energy future it will provide us with. A visual identity that will successfully represent the importance of the Krško NPP2 for the Slovenian society and introduce it to people, while also building confidence in its success. The result is a modern visual identity that keeps in step with the present-day principles and trends.

“It was precisely the long-term and diverse role visual identity plays in communication that made it necessary to create a flexible system, however, also one that is sufficiently distinctive and sophisticated in design to contribute successfully to building the Krško NPP2 brand for the future.” Božidar Jovanovič, Creative Strategist

The Core of the Visual Identity’s Story
We found the cornerstone of the visual identity in the nuclear reactor core itself. Something so small and invisible to the eye drives the greatness of the world around us. The core is a building block of the future, ensuring a safe, sustainable and reliable energy supply. The energy that powers our homes, mobility and industry. It is symbolised by a simple dot, which is merged with others, larger and smaller ones, to form new patterns that either have a recognisable shape or are completely abstract.

A High Utility Level
The new visual identity is applicable and modular, adapted for use in both traditional and digital media. We have prepared a wide array of different implementations and application options, including a full range of communication materials to support the touring project presentations (The JEK2 Roadshow) across Slovenia. To this end, we designed promotional gifts, display stands, a leaflet, s ocial media posts and web banners.
