LiteraTOURe with Josip Jurčič
To Slovenian primary school students Slovenian literature may be seem like a rather dull and unappealing subject. On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of the death of Josip Jurčič, a famed Slovenian writer, the Central Slovenia JSKD (Republic of Slovenia Public Fund for Cultural Activities) wanted to develop a board game concept and use Jurčič as the main character to challenge the dull-literature prejudice and make young players want to learn more about it in a dynamic way. The concept of a game-based journey to Jurčič’s birth house resulted in the idea for the board game name – LiteraTOURe with Josip Jurčič – as well as related design and content adaptations.

Interactive tasks as a means of learning about literature
The concept of a game-based journey to Jurčič’s birth house resulted in the idea for the board game name – LiteraTOURe with Josip Jurčič – as well as related design. With a few content adaptations, children (and adults) can now learn about Jurčič's work and life – as well as the lives of other contemporary and historical Slovenian writers – in a fun and educational way, using cards with various interactive tasks.
On the way to Jurčič’s birth house in Muljava
Players use a visually appealing board and player pieces to travel between the writers’ hometowns, which are also the regional offices of Central Slovenia JSKD, all the way to Jurčič’s desk in his birth house in Muljava. Among other things, the concept for the board game promotion envisages interactive live events that will further motivate young readers. The game board and cover feature various interesting small details that are based on the concept of the game as a journey/tour. They also draw inspiration from literature, featuring quotations from Jurčič’s works and reader motifs.
